Blending the sounds of the broken hearts of the land, pulling from the
soundscape of the American past, and commenting on the fragmentation of
our evolving modernity, Flatbed Love Truck is a band having fun making new
of the old. Flatbed Love Truck comes from a ghostly now. There’s something
old to their sound but it never lacks the currency of these modern times.
Coming from the “old west” of Wyoming, the Country stomp that
hits in some of their songs always seems to understand its Blues genesis.
But then other songs will swing and funk, jazz and howl, but no matter what
genre they seem to strum it always rocks.
In just one year’s time they’ve self-produced and published an 11 song album, played the biggest free festival in the great state of Wyoming, playing with the likes of The Patti Fiasco, J Shogren, and Jalan Crossland, in addition to gaining hundreds of followers in their hometown of Laramie, guaranteeing sold out gyratory shows that spin into a frenzy of movement.
The drumming of Sean Francis is intoxicating. Hammering incessantly into
the focal of point of each song, the audience has no choice but to bob their
head until they find their feet trying to stomp through the ground. Niles
Mischke’s bass playing sets Flatbed Love Truck’s rhythm section
apart. He deftly corrals the notes of his stand-up bass into the middle
of each song and then he vibes on every beat with a controlled fluidity.
Brooks Hoover has an authority over his guitar playing unlike many. From
slide and country hooks to Hendrix inspired manipulation, Brooks plays the
right thing at the right time and still with a sense of exploration. And
then there’s the singing and songwriting of Jeff Duloz. He comes from
the heritage of the honest singer songwriter. Self-exposed and standing
before us, his musical stylings run the track of every genre of American
music, often linking them together in new and intriguing ways.
Flatbed Love Truck is a band determined. From playing benefit shows for the local highschool, to playing for American Veterans for Veterans day, there is no crowd that can’t be driven into liking Flatbed Love Truck.
